Acrylic Painting

Familiarize yourself with the qualities of acrylic paint by learning the traditional techniques of underpainting, impasto, and glazing.  Don't let these terms intimidate you!  This program provides step-by-step methods that allow every student to create a visually compelling composition.

We will begin by constructing a draft of the reference in order to produce an accurate underpainting. From there, we will learn how to achieve tonal values through color mixing. Finally, through the application of impasto and glazing, you will learn how strategic color placements can produce eye-catching illusions of depth.

This curriculum-based, structured painting course is divided into 5 modules.  Each module has 10 sessions running for 2 hours each time. Perfect for 13 years old to adults with beginner or advanced skills.

Module 1: Still Life (Fabric, Glass and Food)

Using still life as a subject, take a look at creating visible tonal transitions and bold brush works. Discover how toned grounds can help as a foundation as base color and experiment with different formulas to achieve variety of tints and shades. The first few steps will focus on drawing a light sketch of the contours with indications to where the shading sharply changes. The majority of the activity will concentrate on mixing, painting and glazing!
Module 2: Impressionistic Painting Through Impasto

Drag and press a thick layer of paint and apply visible brushstrokes and palette knife marks on your canvas! Explore the balance of well planned drawing and organized strokes, yet painted freely and intuitively as possible. With an impressionistic style, get wild and creative through Impasto!
