This program is designed for students aged 10 and above inspired to begin their painting journey with acrylic. Invented in the early 20th century, this modern medium opened up art making to a larger population with its affordability, durability and versatility. Think about Modern art– Campbell’s Soup Cans by Andy Warhol, and A Bigger Splash by David Hockney.
Acrylic has a unique fast-drying property that allows the artist to apply layers upon layers of paint, creating intriguing textures in their compositions. In this course, students will undergo a step-by-step guide to orchestrating the composition, tackling the process of underpainting, sketching, and blocking. As the student progresses in the program, the complexity of the compositions also increases. |

Who is this program for?
10 years old to adults* with the following goals:
• Develop strong observational skills by working from images, objects, and environments with intention
• Move fluidly between observational, stylized, and expressive approaches in portraits, landscapes, and still lifes
• Learn how to intentionally capture light, shadow, movement, texture, and atmosphere in acrylic painting
• Train the mind and eye to deconstruct images into shapes, structures, and values, and reconstruct them into cohesive painted works
• Build focus, grit, and artistic discipline through sustained processes, revision, and problem-solving
• Apply traditional painting concepts (composition, color theory, value, layering) through both conventional and unconventional processes, tools, and materials
• Develop confidence in visual judgment while gradually forming a personal approach to painting
