Watercolour Painting
The traditional practice of watercolour has undergone several phases, from the famous impressionistic landscapes of Matisse, to the subversive abstract expressionism of O’Keefe. There is a gravity behind this timeless medium that may pose as intimidating, however, this program intends to break down the basic and fundamental techniques to give students a comprehensive, detailed learning experience.
Students will engage in brief rundowns of watercolour throughout the ages, tackling notable artists and the prominent techniques found in their works while also discussing the medium’s varying usages and materials. They will learn how to treat and prime the ground while familiarising the concepts of granulation, consistency, staining, permanence, transparency, opacity, and lightfastness.
For the beginning stages, students will be given practical approaches wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry-on-wet, drybrush, smooth blending, gradient, layering, and lifting techniques. Subsequent modules will challenge students to explore more detailed imagery, refine techniques, and develop critical thinking when assessing their works.
This theme-based, structured art course is divided into 3 modules. One module has 10 sessions and runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes each time. Activities are ideal for teens and kids not younger than 10 years old.
